    Hi, a plugin support person tried to log in to my WP admin but the user wasn’t recognised so the login failed. Simple History shows this, and then a new user is created with role subscriber. That user then changes its role to admin. This is the support person who did this, to (apparently) save time not having to tell me that the login I gave him didn’t work, waiting for me to reply, etc. He told me that he managed to create the new user via FTP (he had the correct login for this).

    If he had done this via FTP, by adding code to one of my files presumably, would this show in Simple History? The failed login, new user and change user role were all shown under Simple History.

    Anyone? Would the plugin provider be able to comment maybe?

    @scrappydoo sorry, missed this thread.

    If the support person did a change on the server directly using FTP there is a big chance that their change is not logged. The plugin hooks into common wordpress hooks/filters to detect what happens, but the support person can have done something that did not fire a hook so there was nothing Simple History could see happening.

    Hope this answers your question.

    ”Simple History logs actions within WordPress but should not track direct FTP activity. When I created the admin user via FTP, WordPress recognized it upon login, which is why the plugin logged the user creation and role change.”

    Please could you verify if the above is plausible, sent to me by the support member who apparently created the new user via FTP and then changed it to admin.

    He seems to be saying that after creating the new user via FTP and then logging in for the first time, Simple History recognised that a new user had been created and logged this.

    I can’t really tell for sure I’m afraid. The login would be detected, that sounds reasonable, but not sure about the role change, as I think it happened earlier.. Without knowing how and when the user creation was done I can’t really tell. :/
