• Hi all.
I installed wordpress through my provider (no manual installation) so in my root I have these directories:
    htdocs/wp
    wp

I was working on the wordpress installation for quite some months and leaving the previous static website online. As suggested here, once the new site would have been ready it would have been easier to replace the old with the new.

I decided to do so today and I follow the instructions specified here

Unfortunately, since the structure of directories is not easy (see above) I tried to do the suggested changes pointing the wordpress URL directory in the “general settings” first to the /wp directory and it didn’t work, and then to /htdocs/wp and now I cannot access my wordpress site or dashboard anymore.

I tried also to follow the first three procedures suggested here, but they don’t work. Most probably because I installed everything through the provider and I cannot understand the logic in the directories

The support from my provider tells me I have to reinstall everything from scratch and I cannot believe so.
    Please help!
    Andrea

  • Change the urls back to their original settings. See Changing_The_Site_URL. One the site is working again, see Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

Hi, I am having a similar problem — I was working on my new wordpress site under a different url while keeping up my old site up and running. I switched over today by moving the files and changed all my settings and links. But now my visual editor is GONE! And my WooPress shopping cart no longer works? What can I replace on my server that might restore these functions without losing all my work? https://www.damonandnaomi.com
    Thanks!!!

    Ok I made it… ufff

But i cannot do a proper redirect. I’m not so expert and try to explain.

my old website (done by someone else) is on
    https://www.namewebsite.com

and my wordpress installation is accessible typing:
    https://www.namewebsite/wp

the funny thing is that both the root and the /wp folders are empty: everything is in a /htdocs folder.

The only easy thing I want to happen is that when people type https://www.namewebsite.com they reach automatically the wordpress website which now is accessible typing https://www.namewebsite.com/wp keeping the old site alive and “clickable” as a archive.

Shoudl be difficult but it’s becoming a nightmare.
