I recently uninstalled WordPress Multisite from my main website using directions on WPMU’s website. The new single site was the main site on the Multisite setup originally. I followed the directions to the letter and everything has worked fine except I can’t get to the User Role Editor Settings page anymore. The link is no longer listed in the Settings menu. I tried accessing the Settings via the WP Plugins page where you have provided a link to the Settings when the plugin is activated. I get a message that says, “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.”

When I try to look for my admin account on the Users page, it is not listed. Searching doesn’t find it either. I have other administrators on my site and I’m unable to find their accounts either. It’s as if Administrators are hidden even to administrators.

If I try to add a new user to the site, Administrator is not a role I can select.

Here’s a weird thing. If I go to General Settings and look at the “New User Default Role”, Administrator is listed there. Right now no one can register for an account on my site.

I checked the database and the wp_capabilities for my account is a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}.

The wp_user_roles is lengthy so I won’t bother posting now unless you want me to later to check out but everything appears to be good there. The administrator role has manage_options listed.

My theme is Newspaper by TagDiv and it uses the Visual Composer plugin. I have tried deactivating the Visual Composer plugin but that still did not give me back the ability to view the URE Settings. I have tried deactivating other plugins without taking the whole functionality of my site down with no change. I will deactivate everything tonight if I’m not able to figure out what’s going on.

Do you have any ideas that I can try to get this working?

    Thanks,

    Jerrad

I think I got it figured out. I deactivated User Role Editor and then redownloaded the plugin straight from the www.remarpro.com website. I opened the zip file and uploaded the files/folders to my site via FTP.

While the plugin was off, I went to my Users page and found that the Administrator role was back being listed again along the top with the other roles. I have reactivated the plugin and now I can get to the settings for the plugin again.

Was reloading the plugin a necessary step in the process of changing my site from Multisite to Single? If I had network activated the plugin when I was setup as a multisite, do any of the files change in the folder?

I’m just glad it’s over. Took me all day to figure it out. Hope this post helps someone else if they decide to convert back to single.

WordPress offers a superadmin privileges under multisite. So when you install URE under multisite, a single site administrator role does not receive automatically the needed capabilities to get the full access to URE. This is a real reason of a described problem.

It’s enough to deactivate/activate back URE to resolve the issue with ‘administrator’ role URE related capabilities after a such migration: from multisite to single site. URE adds its own ‘ure_%’ capabilities to the ‘administrator’ role automatically under the single WordPress after activation.

Thanks Vladimir for replying so quick and for the detailed explanation. I’m all good now so I’ll close the ticket. Keep making great plugins!
