Change widget colour

Hi, I want my widget to have a white background, and preferably black text for the links, as in the sample Semicolon page (https://semicolon.kovshenin.com/) but I can’t change the colour of the widget unless I change the accent colour, which means that when you hover over anything on the site it also goes white, which I don’t want.
