Change vertical menu background color

I tried changing every single color value, but I was never able to change the whole background of the vertical menu, only the background of the text lines.
Do you know which line of the snippet in particular is supposed to achieve that?

put this code in your theme’s Custom CSS if it is available or go to Appearance > Editor > style.css to change background color of vertical menu.

you can see style.css at right side under the Templates.
