• For some reason, my username ended up being test6385

But I want it to be Taylor Napolsky, or taylornapolsky, or something closer to my name than test6385.

I tried to change it, but it says usernames cannot be changed.

Is there a way to change it, and if so, how do I do it? If not, what are the repercussions of having that terrible name as my username? I mean, is test6385 what my website will ultimately be linked to in search engines, etc?

    thx!

  • Well, if it’s a new installation you could just create a new user with the username you want, set it as an administrator, log into the new account, and delete the old “test6385” user. When you delete it, WordPress should ask you if you want to attribute any posts/pages/comments to another user.

Also, if you don’t care about the actual username, in “Users > Your Profile” you can set a nickname and have that be what is publicly displayed.

Finally, if you don’t want to do either of those, you can go into your database (using phpMyAdmin probably) and change the actual entry for your user name.

oops-dupe :/ was typing while he ^ posted.
