    Hello there,
If you duplicate the product this is normal.

You must manually change the permalink: https://pagecrafter.com/change-permalink-single-post/

Hi Nicola, the permalink structure is correct. It is showing the product name. But it is not changing the product name when I change the name of the product. Usually on a regular WP page, when the Title is changed and saved, the URL changes also. This is not happening with the store products. Should it happen automatically when changing the name of a product? You can see the discrepancy on the link I included of a saved product page.

I should also mention there is no “Edit” button beside the permalink. The only button beside the URL is “Change Permalinks”. I don’t want to do that, and couldn’t if I wanted to, because on the Permalink page under Product Permalinks the default radio button is filled (/?product=sample-product) and all the other buttons are greyed out. Is that normal?

It sounds like we’re some parts of the puzzle here and the link you shared initially doesn’t seem to be working on my side.

With that being said, can you elaborate a bit more on how exactly you’re duplicating those products – is that through a 3rd party plugin? Also, are you looking to change the title of the duplicated product, the slug of the duplicate product or both?

In the event that your permalink settings only allow for “Default”, then it likely means that your hosting server doesn’t support different types of permalinks. To check whether that’s the case, you’ll want to reach out to your hosting provider to ask whether the mod_rewrite PHP module is installed/active.

I’m not actually duplicating the product. I’m just changing the name, info, picture and all other product information manually. This has been working fine for each product except for the permalink. I’m not familiar with the slug for a product, only it’s use with categories. Is there a product slug I should be filling in somewhere?

The other permalinks for Common Settings (posts and pages) are not greyed out and can be changed. Just not the Product Permalinks. I didn’t receive an answer to my questions above. Should there be an Edit button beside the permalink, and should the permalink change when the product name is changed?

    Hi @kirascurro,

Yes, there should be an edit button next to the permalink. Further, the permalink of a duplicate product will look similar to the original product’s. You can change the permalink by clicking the Edit button.

    For instance:
Here’s the original product appears: https://snipboard.io/WZFpc1.jpg)
Here’s how the duplicate product appears: https://snipboard.io/aRZBxQ.jpg

Thanx for your reply, abwaita. Unfortunately, there is no Edit button beside my permalinks, only Change Permalinks, which I’ve never seen there before. I thought there should have been an Edit button, because it’s always been there on my other WP sites.

But I did find the Page Slug under Quick Edit, which I rarely use and just came upon by chance. I could change the permalink by changing the slug. That’s the only way I’ve found, so far.

But I also wonder if the buttons under Product Permalinks on the Permalinks page should be greyed out with the default being the only button I can use.

I’m having other problems with the WooCommerce installation, too. When I click the Proceed to Checkout on the Cart page, it doesn’t do that, and I get this error:

    This page isn’t working
netsolhost.com redirected you too many times.

Could it be a bad WooCommerce or WordPress installation?

    Hello @kirascurro ,

Okay, all of these can be related to a bad installation of WooCommerce or WordPress. Also, it can be related to any other third-party plugin.

Can you please share an un-cropped screenshot of both product edit and permalink page where you see the issue?

Also, run through these tests and let me know how it goes?

    1. Switch to a default theme i.e. Twenty Twenty / Storefront
    2. Deactivate all plugins except WooCommerce and then activate them one by one to figure out the faulty one.

Test your feature after each activation/deactivation. More details on the conflict test here.

If the above does not help please share your WooCommerce configuration details from wp-admin > WooCommerce > Status so we can understand a bit more about the problem.

    Thank you ??

thank you for your reply, Rashed. since my last post I’ve gotten my Theme’s tech support involved, as they also think it might be a bad theme or WooCommerce installation. i’m also having my host check out my WP installation. before i begin the tests you suggested i’d like to wait to see the results of the theme tech support and my host’s efforts. if they are unable to find the problem then i will conduct the tests and respond again here. thanx, again.
