    Hi all,

I know this question has been asked a hundred times, but even after taking everyone’s advice I still have nothing. When changing the theme name in style.css is this before uploading it to wordpress or is it when it’s in wordpress editor?

I tried changing it before uploading it to WordPress and everything works except but the URL still says .com/wp-content/themes/Originalname/ in javascript urls and elsewhere.

Anyone able to offer any advice on how to get rid of it and change it permanently without getting a 500 error?

    Thank you.

  • Did you upload to the correct path?

It was a .zip which I uploaded through Install themes in wordpress.

The url pulls the name from the theme folder name. If you change the name of the folder, it should change the url, but you will have to reactive the theme because the name changes and WordPress cant find it so it activates a default theme.

Thank you Jayreyvee! So this means you have to change the folder name prior to uploading it to WordPress?

Are there any solutions for when the theme is already uploaded?

You could switch to a different theme

And then using ftp or a file manager if your host offers one, log on to your server and change the folder name

    Then reactivate that theme

Well, you can always upload it again with the new name. Or if you have access to the files through FTP, you can change it that way.

Oh great call with FTP or different name. Guess the layout won’t get screwed up that much in the process either since it will be keeping the same overall layout.

Just changing the name/folder won’t affect the layout at all. Just make sure you switch to a different theme first. Or else WP gets cranky

Yeah, best to deactivate the theme before changing any directory names.
