Change theme means change images?

  • Hello all I am new here and to WordPress (I know, a bit behind right?)

    I just worked up my own little theme from scratch with custom images to go with the post thumbnails and slideshows etc. Nothing great, clumsy on the backend frankly but Im new so…

    Then I went and purchased a premium theme to use and learn from.

    Now the problem/question:

    When I change themes, all of my images do not fit the dimensions of the premium theme of course. And so, when switching themes, does this kind of imply that all images/thumbnails will most likely need to be recreated in order to play well with the newly installed theme?

    Moreover, does this make uploading media to the default location “wp-content/uploads/” not the best approach?
    Should I be uploading media to specific locations depending on theme?

    I hope this question is clear enough, I am a bit lost.
    Any help appreciated!

  • Not necessarily. You can use timthumb to re-size images on the flight. Just need to plug the code every where in the theme that you want to publish images.

    It looks like it might help me in certain places but not as a whole.

    As for the uploads directory.
    Are there folks out there who create separate directories for each theme?
    ex.
    “wp-content/uploads/theme1”
    “wp-content/uploads/theme2”

    And when switching between themes simply change this location in Settings?

    Don’t use TimThumb. It is overkill, and absolutely unnecessary.

    All you need to do is regenerate your Thumbnails.
