    I was wondering how to do the same, until I realized how many slideshow plugins were available. I found one called “Slideshow” (how original), by StefanBoonstra, and its awesome! You can change the slideshow height, width, time between changes, nav options, etc. It offers 10x more customization than the jetpack slideshow does, and the interface is easy to use. To change the background color, you can customize the light or dark color settings, and there you can edit the CSS. Hope this helps!
