I have the archives calender in my sidebar on my site and the width of it is throwing off the size of that table and the rest of the layout in turn. I want to make the calender narrower and I tried placing the include for it in a table and set the width, but it didn’t change anything. Is there a file I can go into and edit or something to fix it?

Assuming you’re using WordPress 1.2.x with the standard template, look in wp-layout.css for the collection of #calendar declarations at the end. You can change the width, font-size, and so on for the various calendar elements there.

I’m not using the standard template, but I could create the same class in my own stylesheet, right?

Exactly. The wp-calendar id (the *correct* name for it) is passed by WordPress no matter what, so all you need do is make those declarations in your css.
