• I have a client who wants to change her site/domain name. Currently, she has WordPress set up at ilovepugs.com* and now wants to change her website to pugsnotdrugs.com. She’s not switching servers, just the domain name. Can I just change the URL using the Changing Site URL instructions and be okay, or do I need to actually move the current WordPress installation to another folder and go that route?

    Thanks in advance!

    * Totally made those up, by the way.

    Yes I do.

If you just change URL of the blog as you said and set your domain records to the hosting, that’s ok. But in my opinion, you should follow these step to make your site always be online :

    • Click Addon Domains and add new domain pugsnotdrugs.com to your account. Setting Document Root to be public_html/ilovepugs.com
    • Point your new domain to your hosting (using nameserver or IP method
    • Check your setting by type new domain in URL bar of your browser. Make sure that its content is the same as you old site. It can take up to 72 hours to become active, but typically take only a few minutes
    • Change the URL using the Changing Site URL instructions

You can do additional step: Copy folder public_html/ilovepugs.com and change its name to be public_html/pugsnotdrugs.com and then update your Addon domains setting

Thanks, I believe that makes sense. On the Changing Site URL page you linked, do I need to go through the “Moving Sites” section as well or not?
