I saw a few topics on using plug-ins to add an email contact form, but none of the ones I tried worked quite right for me.

    https://www.theaccomplices.net

Basically, I just want to turn the Search Form Box on my side bar into a Join Our Email List Form Box. I like the idea of just keeping a simple box on the side bar where a user could enter his/her email address and then click submit. That would then generate an email that would be sent to me with a subject that says Mailing List or whatever. Make sense?

I tried the In Touch plug-in but it was way more complex than what I want. Does anyone know how to simply modify the code for my existing Search Form or of a simple plug in which will do pretty much what I want?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, you cannot “turn” a search form into something else. Although they might look quite the same on the surface, a search box and a mailing list subscription box act in a totally different way.
And just sending you an “email” is not really a ‘subscription’ to a mailing list.

There are specialized scripts (mailing list software) that would do what you are after. WP does n’t have a built-in feature for a mailing list. You should look for something like mailman or newsletter in the Plugins section:
