change product position on category page – HELP!

i need to move them around. Position wise. In admin, if i go under “products” then sort by a specific category, i can choose “quick edit” inwhich is shows “order”. When i change this number, it stays in the same position on the category page.
If i edit the product directly, and choose “advance” and then choose “menu order” and change the number, after reload, the image on the category page still stays in the same position.
Please help!
