Change “previous” and “next” links to post dates?

My site is a bit different. I have the frontpage displaying posts in desc order and the archive pages in asc order. That makes for a confusing nav system.

What would make it easier to understand is to just change the “previous” and “next” links to show the date of the previous and next post(s).

Can this be done?
