• The site structure was previously built by someone else, so it’;s a bit more complicated… The url is https://backpain-la.com the page shows up fine. Origianlly the permalink slug was home1, for some reason a page named “Degeneration” has the permalink to the url. It is a secondary page under the Research tab.

Since the permalink couldn’t be changed and the wrong home page was showing (ie. index.html), I copied the content from home 1 to the Degeneration page and changed the title to Home. It displays fine, except the research menu now has a link under it called “Home” instead of “Degeneration”. Both of them are set properly in the Quick edit as far as I can see in terms of the structure. I had made a new page called Degeneration with Research as parent page and page order of 2.

How can I keep the home page as is and the link name uder the Research tab to display as Degeneration and show the correct page?

  • Hi there
If I understand you correctly this should be fairly straight forward.
In WordPress, normally your blog shows as the default home page on the site. However you can choose to set the home page to a static page if you prefer, which is how your site is currently set up.

Create a new page called home (or any other name it doesn’t really matter as this will be the home page) copy the info you wish to display on the home page to this new page.

On the page named ‘Degeneration’ put the information appropriate to this page.

Next, in your WordPress control panel, go to the Reading Settings window (Settings–> Reading)In the left-hand menu. Here choose front page displays a static page and select the ‘Home’ page you created from the drop-down menu. Then select the page your blog is on ie ‘Blognews’ and click ‘Save Changes’.

Then select your ‘Degeneration’ page in edit mode and make Research its parent page.

You should now your requested structure.
    Hope this helps

    regards

    Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply. I checked what you suggested, which was setup that way. What I had to do was this- on the page called Degeneration (this wasn’t a blog post fyi) I went back to the first revision of the page and it worked! It was one of those odd things where it was set up by someone else…
