change parameters wp_get_archives in sidebar

  • I use the Archives widget in the sidebar of my blog https://mabelfigworthy.co.uk/fof/

    At the moment it shows months followed by post counts.

    I would like it to show the months of the current year (with post counts), and all the previous years just as the year until you click on a year, when the months with post counts appear.

    On the forum I found some code that would do this, using wp_get_archives but I’m not sure where to put the code.

    I can’t put it in a text widget in the sidebar, it’ll just show code, but when I tried editing wp_get_archives in sidebar.php using the editor, whatever I did made no difference at all. I made changes to sidebar.php, saved them, refreshed my blog page, and it would still look exactly the same.

    What am I doing wrong?
