    I am going through an SEO audit and am not clear on whether or not the canonical should match the pagination – or the best way to set that..?

    (URL) …/blog/page/10 -> (canonical) …/blog/page/10

    I’m not clear, but it looks like all of mine are maybe going to …/blog/ instead..? I tried to follow the other 2 posts I found here but the answers didn’t make sense to me.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello!

    The canonical URL should point to the canonical version of the page. If the page is paginated, the URL should also be paginated.

    Setting the canonical version to the first page of the paginated archive will limit the visibility of older posts, which may cause them to be removed from search engines when there’s no link to those elsewhere.

    If the canonical URL is not paginated unintentionally, be sure there’s no custom canonical URL added for the page via The SEO Framework’s SEO settings.

    Some themes and plugins add blocks or shortcodes that output paginated content. This type of pagination is often not communicated well with WordPress. Even when the pagination is communicated, it’s often too late in the page generation cycle; after TSF is done outputting metadata. Pagination should be part of the “main query,” such as set by theme templates and archives.

    So should I go back to the theme developer to ask them how this is handled? I don’t see any setting in The SEO Framework to do this for me.

    Hi again!

    If you can edit the blog as any page, you can find the canonical URL input by scrolling down to the “SEO Settings” meta box. Therein, under the “Visibility” tab, you’ll find the Canonical URL input.

    Otherwise, I cannot really tell how that blog page is generated. The archives of your site I tried to visit redirected me to the homepage.
