My initial intention was to follow the WordPress standard way of doing things, therefore there is no setting to set the lightness (RGB=>HSL=>RGB complex transformations are used to get this lighter colour, it’s not opacity at all). It’s also not as simple as just giving users a setting because WordPress uses blue text and some bright colours will then interfere with the readability of the standard Title text.

Currently the plugin is maxed out on its development and I probably won’t ever touch it again (I’m also not a professional developer).

You’re welcome to use another highlighting extension or you can hack the plugin code yourself to find the lightness setting and to play with this setting to change it.

I’ve added support for the background lightness value through a filter. See the FAQ for code example to copy.
