Change map direction distance from km to miles?

G’day klockett1,

Google Maps detects which unit system to use based on the website domain, e.g. for .com.au it picks metric (metres, kilometres, etc.) and for USA it should pick imperial (furlongs, fathoms, etc.)

What is your website domain, for which it should be using miles? Or do you wish to present it in imperial units for visitors?

I see that the Google Maps API lets me tell it which unit system to use, so I’ll add a wish-list note for a new shortcode attribute letting you specify that. Probably not going to happen for a few weeks though!

My website is braziercountryservices.co.uk and as we’re a Scottish service based business I’ve been asked for the units to always display as miles – many thanks for adding the request to the wish list, fingers crossed my wish gets answered soon! Would it be possible for you to email me when the shortcode is generated?

No worries, I have heard you lot are still stuck with miles — some sort of metric / imperial hybrid. Google apparently thinks you should all be up with metric by now, as it sees .uk as non-US English and thus picks metric for you. Sounds like I really do need to add that shortcode attribute then!

I’ll add a note to this issue when I add the feature. I’m backlogged with other work right now, but this sort of thing is an easy one to add so maybe soon.

That code change request is still on my list. I’ve been busy with paid work, so new features on free plugins can be a bit slow coming. If your client is in a big rush, please ask them to contact me and I’ll discuss my rates with them.
