Change locations for already existing taxonomy

the website for which I intend to use your plugin has already a rather extensive locations taxonomy. I would not like to use to different taxonomies for the same objective, do you think it is possible to switch easily ? Does that imply a lot of modifications in the plugin, or just a search and replace of the taxonomy name ? (I’m aware that means I cannot update the pugin automatically after that)
