I want to change the images used in the header and displayed randomly. I deleted the old ones in the media panel and only the new images are shown in the media panel. But both, the old and the new images are still shown in the header settings in the design section and therefore displayed on the website. I don’t find an option to delete the old pictures in the header settings.
What can I do to display only the new header images?

disable random header and upload crop new one.
    try clear site/plugin cache also.

Actually I tried to follow your recommendations. But still, despite the pictures have been deleted in the media center, they are still shown in the header settings and on the website. There is no obvious way to delete these pictures. It worked some time ago when I started with the theme but not anymore. Is there any place where the header pictures are stored in addition to the media center and where these pictures can be deleted from?

    hi jen
did you delete the header image from wp-admin->media libray?
check the old header image path/name and see if it still exist in media library.

also try change to default 2014 theme, an upload crop new header image->saved->an remove header image. to clear some wp header cache config.

and revert back to meso theme again.
