• Hello! I’m not an HTML or CSS whiz, I can do the basics but I’m having a really tough time trying to figure out how to change the top header portion of my website. I only want to change the uppermost background image, there are drop-down tabs below that which I’d like to remain the same. Here is a link to the site I’m talking about: https://www.fitgreengoddess.net/ So the home/about/contact etc. tabs I want to keep.

Thank you so very much in advance if anyone is willing to help me out!
    Cait

Do you know whether there’s a section in your dashboard named, ‘Custom CSS’ or ‘Custom Styles’?

I only want to change the uppermost background image,

Do you know what you want to change this to?

Yes, there in the editor portion there is: Styles: Stylesheet (style.css)

And I have the image I’d like to change it to, I’ve got it saved as a jpeg on my computer but here’s a link to wat it looks like on flickr: https://flickr.com/gp/77196975@N04/163T0M

Changes this specific may require use of either a Child Theme or Custom Style/CSS plugin, as changes to themes’ original files will erase once the theme updates.

okay, i’m sorry if this may be a dumb question, but are did a search for Child Theme or Custom Style/CSS in the plugins but couldn’t find either. Do you happen to know of the link?

So if I do try to change the header through those plugins or switching themes, will I be starting from scratch? This is my friend’s business website so will she need to redo all of the tabs linking, adverts, and body portions of her site too??

    Thank you so much!

The blue coloured text in my last post are hyperlinks, sorry for the confusion.

On the contrary, you will start from scratch if you apply changes without either a Child Theme or Custom Style plugin; any changes to original theme files will erase once the theme updates.

Hi Andrew! Sorry it took me so long to get back, I had to run out to an appt. So I should have gotten that blue type as an obvious indicator they were links…sorry, thank you for clearing that up for me!

I’m afraid I’m still lost and a bit confused, maybe I’m not even at a level where I can grasp this stuff. I went to the Child Themes and began reading, but where/how am I supposed to make a new directory in wp-content/themes?
