Change get_permalink to "get external link".

I’m trying to modify a “random post widget” plugin. It already grabs the first image of the post, which is what I want.

But instead of get_permalink, I would like it to get the image link that is entered when inserting the image into the post (external link). Is this possible?

Any help would be much appreciated!
