change dimension of images

My images are 999 x 749 px but they show in the slideshow at 960 x 300 px on the desktop, whilst on the phone they are similar proportions but also obscuring text in the post. Is there a difference between “slider” and “slideshow”? because this size would be fine for a header but I want it for a post.
