On the Billing Information page it has State – where it means country, i.e. the drop down list is countries and in the UK we say Post Code not Zip Code. Is there anywhere we can change that Labels? Thank you.

Another quick question, do we have to add a VAT rate? We are not vatable yet.

Re changing the labels, I’ve worked out how to amend the PO file using POEdit, and created a new one with the Alpha-2 Country Code of GB (instead of US).

But it does still seem that the Billing Information form should have a space for State\County?

    Hi,

The default language translation will probably be modified to just “Country” as that type of custom field prints a list of the ISO 3166 country codes. “State” is more appropriate to specify a region or an actual state, where this applies (i.e. US, Canada, Australia).

You did good by changing the default translation for that string in the PO/MO file, but please notice that the Pro version of the plugin would have let you modify directly the label of that custom field from the apposite page “Global – Custom Fields”. Such labels also support translations into other languages in case you need to set up a multi-language website. This is valid for the country and postal code fields.

Adding new custom fields is not allowed with the free version of the plugin, I’m sorry. I believe to have understood you would like to offer also a Country-State input field? In this case this wouldn’t be a drop down list automatically populated with the states of the selected country as there is no custom field of type “country-state”, you can only have the countries populated through the database. If you wanted to display a “country-state” field, then this would have to be either an input field of type text for manual input, or a fixed drop down menu with a few options.

    We hope this helps!

    That’s really helpful. Thank you.

Your State field though has a drop down list of countries (so I’ve amended the label from State to Country). I think you need to amend in the software?

The Pro version sounds great if we can add fields ourselves.

    Thanks again, Lindsay

    Hi Lindsay,

Yes, that’s exactly what I was referring to. That default field label will definitely be changed to “Country”, which is an existing language definition, definitely more appropriate.

With the free version you can always make such changes via database. By using a database management interface like phpMyAdmin, you could modify the record in the table containing the “custom fields” so that it will read “Country”. Otherwise, the default language translation string could be overridden, or as you did, you can change the value in the PO/MO file, but then future updates may overwrite the original PO/MO files unless you load them through a third party plugin for multiple languages.

Thank you, I think we’ll definitely look at buying Pro. I just need my client to have a look at first :). Great support.
