change default_order_by to start date

hello hive

i’m using the category ajax filter and am looking to change the default order that events are listed in. i’ve changed the functions.php file code line $default_order_by=’title’; to $default_order_by=’post_date’; but it’s not quite what i want!

what i want is to order events by their start date, but i can’t find a replacement variable which works
