• Forgive me if this is already answered somewhere and I can’t find it.

I discovered today (through the complaints of a customer) that WP uses the beginning of the users email address as the username. So if someone is registering and their email address is [email protected], his username is automatically set to someguy.

This would be fine if WP notified the user of this. Since the login asks for username OR email address, it should also accept the user’s full email address. However, it does neither. It will only accept someguy (as referenced above), not Guy’s Actual Name nor [email protected].

So… to make a long story endless, where can I set the default username for new registrations? Or where I can change the setting so that it lets the new user know what their username is?

    Thanks in advance!
    Heidi

  • This is news to me… I don’t think that’s right… but, I will take what you say on face value.

Install and Configure Profile Builder which will let you customise the registration form and add or remove fields.

Thank you, Shannon! I’ll look into that.

Ugh. Unfortunately I don’t think this is going to work. I wasn’t even done setting up when spam registrations started rolling in. The CleanTalk plugin I have installed to stop that doesn’t recognize Profile Builder registrations in order to filter out spam. Sad.

    Hello, GhyslainChocolatier!
I’m one of the CleanTalk’s developers. I tested CleanTalk with Profile Builder just now and found, that our service filters registrations from this plugin. Maybe, you forgot to check “Custom contact forms” option? You can enable it this way: your WP admin panel -> Settings -> CleanTalk -> Advanced settings -> Custom contact forms -> Yes, Save settings.
If you’ll have any questions, write us to email: welcome at cleantalk dot org, we’ll try to solve your problem as soon as possible!
