Change default language and redirect 301

  • Hi there,

    I really like the plugin but now I’m in need of a hand!

    So, my site lucatravelsaround.com displays English as the default language, and Italian as second so, Italian articles’ urls, start with .com/it/.

    I’d like to change this, since ITA articles have more traffic than ENG ones, so make Italian the default language, accessible via .com/article_url and ENG ones via .com/en/.

    This I’m pretty sure will cause some problems with urls redirections, for medias as well.
    Does polylang manage these redirections once I switch language?
    If not, what’s the best practice I can use? (consider I’d like also to change permalinks structure…)

    Hi,

    Yo can make a backup before you experiment the change, or even better setup a staging site (clone) and test on it.

    Your posts, pages, custom post, categories and custom taxonomies archives should be redirected with 301 code status. Your date archives and authors archives won’t be redirected.
