change date display under post title

Right now under the titles of my posts, the date displays as, say, “June 8th, 2009.” I want it to say “June 8”–no th. In settings, it says it is already set to say “June 8,” etc.–no th. I went in to singlepost.php and deleted the S where I found it in one string of code relating to the time (after reading the codex and learning the S stood for the ordinal in php). This worked for the dates on the comments, which now just say “June 8,” but the date under the post titles still has the th.

Where and how do I change this display?
