• I have noticed that categories on my sidebar and footer menus is showing what appears to be the “most used” categories. It also shows “featured posts” which I use for a blog post carousel. Is there a way to customize the categories that show in this widget? Id like to remove “featured posts” and show other categories that I haven’t written on yet? Is that possible?

To remove a widget, use appearance->widgets and drag the widget out of the sidebar. Replace the “most used” categories with the standard “categories” widget from the left.

I’m sorry but I only see one “categories”…not a standard or most used one? Do I have to create that somehow?

    Thanks

there is no standard “most used” categories widget. If you have one, it’s part of your theme or provided by a plugin.

OK. Is there a way for me to change what categories are shown?

Look at the options for that widget.

The only options I see when I open categories is a box for a title, 3 check boxes that say Display as dropdown, show post counts and show hierarchy.

That’s the standard category widget. If you don’t want to show numbers, uncheck that option. There are other category widgets in the plugin repository if you’d like something different.
