Hi ?? Is there a way to change or redirect the 404 pages to 410, so they will eventually be removed from Google? Redirecting them to my home page is ok, I guess, but these posts are never coming back. I changed my theme content a while back and have a lot of 404s. Being a blogger only, I was (and am still) learning as I go. Had I known posts aren’t deleted when you delete them, and count against you forever, I would have just created a fresh website. I’ve seen where you can add code to the .htaccess file, but I’d rather use a plugin. Thanks in advance ??

There is no automated way of doing this and it’s probably not a good idea to do a global 404 => 410. You can create individual redirects that match known 404s and use the 410 error code to convert them 410.
