• Contact Form 7 seems to be having major issues with email being treated as Spam

The form on my Contact Page now sends fine (after I disabled reCAPTCHA keys and then re-installed them)

But my ‘Registration Form’ submissions still gets flagged as spam.
I just installed Flamingo and the two test messages states that I have “reCAPTCHA score (0.10) is lower than the threshold (0.50).” or “reCAPTCHA score (0.00) is lower than the threshold (0.50).”

I also notice that Ninja Forms (which was installed when I recently installed a new theme) states that Contact Form breaks reCAPTCHA for other form builder plug-ins and CF7 should be disabled.

(And yes I’ve read the FAQs, which as stated previously don’t actually provide much insight for fixing the problem)

  • I couldn’t test your form (far too many required fields) but I can’t see any issues on that form & reCAPTCHA appears to be working as expected.

As reCAPTCHA works in the background it can take some time to learn what should be classified as spam on your site – particularly if you only get a few form submissions each day.

Installing Flamingo is a good idea – it saves all form submissions included those rejected as spam & helps to get a better picture of what is happening when you get problems.

I also notice that Ninja Forms (which was installed when I recently installed a new theme) states that Contact Form breaks reCAPTCHA for other form builder plug-ins and CF7 should be disabled.

Can you provide a link where you saw that advice – I’d like to review that.

The error comes up when you install and activate Ninja Forms in WordPress.

Also, reCATACHA is now blocking messages on my contact form again.

At this stage, I think I’m going to have to look for a new Form plug-in… there have been far too many issues with CF7 over the last year or so… first the problem of not working with Safari for file uploads, now the ‘supposed spam’ issue. I seem to be spending more time finding work arounds than developing the actual forms themselves.

The error messages are useless and non-informative… and the FAQs which we are directed to for so called more information are just as unhelpful.

WHEN it works CF7 is great… but recent versions have introduced far to many issues.

The Register form will need to be filled in by about 100+ groups and I need them to be able submit it the first time WITHOUT hassles… yes it is a looooong form… but unfortunately that info needs to be collected. I don’t want them coming in, entering the details and then getting a non-descriptive error message and giving up.

As to Flamingo, I’m not planning on keeping it installed… it doesn’t save the attachments… and assumes you have the default fields of [subject], [your-name] and [your-email] used in your form… rather than using what is actually sent as the subject and from email address.

I think I have the same problem

    I use :
    – WordPress Version 5.3.2–fr_F
    – Theme Twenty Twenty
    – Contact Form 7 Version 5.1.6
    – reCaptcha by BestWebSoft Version 1.55

On the Form on the page below :
    https://www.artdevivrefengshui.fr/contact/

When the Submit button in Contact Form 7 is clicked, there is an error message in an orange border. The Contact Form 7 documentation indicates that this is a sign of spam.

I also installed Flamingo to have some details about this. It mentions about the messages :

Spam log: The result of reCAPTCHA (0.00) is below the threshold (0.50).

How can we improve this result to match the threshold ?

The result is the same with different captchas :

    – Contact Form 7 Captcha
    – Captcha Bank
    – reCaptcha by BestWebSoft

I have not tested other forms. It seems to be the last solution unless you have an idea ?
    Thank you in advance !

@stephanepoisson We have configure Contact form 7 with google recaptcha version 3. Please try to set site key and security key of version 3. There is no doubt captcha will be worked as invisible, but you can get lead mails into your webmail or any other lead system.

I have the same problem on hubbroker.website contact us page. So, I have applied the same and it solved my query yesterday only.

I am going to apply the same thing on hubbroker.com contact us page as well.

Let me know, if it works for you.

    Thank you for your help.

I already have set reCaptcha version 3.

Today, I suppressed the reCaptcha plugin and then reinstalled it with version 3, just to be sure. I still have the same problem of spam in Contact Form 7.

    Keep on digging…

For the moment, I have solved the problem by using Formidable Forms instead of Contact form 7. But I find it less practical as I need to log in to the site to see the messages received.
I keep interested in finding a solution with Contact form 7.

@stephanepoisson You don’t need to install reCaptcha plugin. If you install contact form 7 and verified with Google recaptcha. Then, put those site key and security key in integration menu.

To find integration option -> Left menu panel -> Contact form -> 3rd Option “Integration”. In that, the second option is reCaptcha. Place your keys there and it will work.

Regarding, using Formidable Forms -> I have used around 15 types of different forms – WPforms, ER forms, Flexible form, gravity form, but none of them are worked well.

    Thanking you.

    Thank you very much @hubbrokeraps
It works perfectly ! Sigh of relief…

At this stage I’ve REMOVED the reCAPTCHA keys from the Integration menu under Contact Form and added a basic quiz to my forms.

This is currently working… but lets see how much spam sneaks through.

Ideally it would be great to get CF7 working properly with reCAPTCHA again.
This site never had a v2 key… so that is NOT the problem.

Looking through recent questions, it seems a number of sites are having problems with CF7 and reCAPTCHA… now I don’t know enough about how CF7, reCAPTCHA and Akismet Anti-Spam work together… but it would be nice if the CF7 developers at least acknowledged in their FAQs that there is a potential problem with this common combination and list potential solutions — would save many of us a lot of headaches.

Well, that didn’t last long… spam has started to seep through on the Contact Form ??

    @stephanepoisson You’re welcome ??

reCAPTCHA not working right? I used another reCAPTCHA 2.
What does cf7 think is spam

Everything I try to do to test is spam

    Hello,
I’m having same problem here with contact forms 7 and spam.
Checked with flamingo, and I have the “reCAPTCHA score (0.10) is lower than the threshold (0.50).” message on spam messages.

Is there a way to fix this? (the forms were working until now. Tested deactivating plugins and didn’t work)

I’m also getting a 500 error when submitting:
    /wp-json/contact-form-7/v1/contact-forms/7713/feedback 500
