Learned that PP’s WebP image optimizations won’t work behind Cloudflare because CF doesn’t respect the Vary header in the free accounts. As an alternative, CF Polish needs to be activated, but by being part of a Pro subscription it costs US$20/m. However, Cloudflare Images is a new-ish offer that seems quite similar to Polish, and starts at just US$5/m, but it doesn’t seem to have some established WP plugin to take advantage of it. Would PP WebP optimizations work out of the box if I purchase such a subscription? Shall PP get WebP working, and eventually resize images adaptively on-the-fly depending on device viewport, when a Cloudflare Images subscription is enabled? Thanks.

Additionally, have been looking into other image-processing alternatives based on CDN (e.g. Optimole), as a way to workaround the lack of Vary header support in CF free. However, PP doesn’t seem very happy about that arrangement, as I’m getting an error in the PP configuration page:

warning: Image optimization API error: Request exception: Requests_Exception MSG: cURL error 28: Connection timed out after 10001 milliseconds Code: 0

Anyway, can I still get the other positives of PhastPress’ HTML, CSS & JS optimizations by simply switching off the Images optimizations?

    Thanks.

According my tests last week, PhastPress (with images optimizations and lazy loads disabled) + WP Fastest Cache Free (for page cache) + Optimole (adaptive images CDN + lazyload) are working great together behind CloudFlare Free and boosting PageSpeed Insights significantly. Similarly, PhastPress + Super Page Cache for CF + Optimole work well together.
    HTH.
