• I am trying to use WP as a CMS for a static site.
I have added about 6 different category widgets to my site. I gave each category a title.
I would like to add pages (which will consist of a collection of posts) under each category. I am not sure how – technically – I get each of these pages to appear under the relevant category.
When I add a new page it has the “name” and “value” (I don’t know what that means). I don’t see a way to connect the pages to the different categories that I have set up. I also don’t see the category titles under “categories”.
Moreover, I would like each of these widgets to have different pages which will be connected to that particular category. I have given each category box a different name (title) but I don’t see any way of associating different pages to these different categories. Even when I did get some categories to appear on these drop down category lists (and I can’t manage to recall how I did this) then the same categories appear on each of the widgets and as I wrote I want different categories for each widget.
After spending days trying to solve this I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks!
    Nicole

  • Posts can be assigned to categories; pages can’t.

    Posts are meant to chronological content; pages, static;

Try using Page Links To plugin. With it, you can create a page, and assign any url you want it to point to. Assign your category link, and maybe you achieve what you want.

About the widgets: could you explain a little more?

Thanks for getting back to me.
About the widgets – I moved a “category widget” into the right column of my theme. It allowed me to move about 6 different category widgets (i.e. I dragged the widget 6 times).

I want to achieve the following result:
cakes (title of the first category widget)
    chocolate
    cherry
    vanilla

ice cream (title of the second category widget)
    chocolate chip
    strawberry
    lemon

dessert (title of the third category widget)
    creme brule
    creme caramel

You can list all categories and child categories in one widget though, and format them differently to highlight parent categories.

when you set up your categories go to links and assign the links to the selected category
