I’m considering using a CDN for my site. My shop sells digital downloads. When a customer buys the download, will the file be coming from the CDN or the host server? I want it to come from the CDN. What settings should I have in WooCommerce for this to happen?

When you click on the ‘Add File’ button – it will let you paste the CDN URL into the box without having to press the ‘Choose File’ button

    Howdy @epicburrito

Just wanted to check in, and inquire if you had a chance to try out setting CDN file URLs at your store’s downloadable products. Let us know how it goes, when you try it out!

Thank you for chiming in, @seank123!

I haven’t tried it yet. One more question, is it possible to only use the CDN for the digital downloads and not use the CDN for the rest of the store / site?

    Hi @epicburrito

is it possible to only use the CDN for the digital downloads and not use the CDN for the rest of the store / site?

I am not sure I quite understand what you are referring to here when you stated, not use the CDN for the rest of the store / site?

Can you please provide further information about what you are trying to achieve here so that we could point you to the right direction?

I’m asking if I can store the files that are for sale as digital downloads on the CDN. And then have all the other site files on my local host. Basically, I’m asking if I can use a CDN similar to cloud storage for the downloaded files. For other business reasons, I can’t use an actual cloud storage for the files so I’m wondering if only downloadable files on the CDN will behave correctly with WooCommerce.

    Hi @epicburrito

Thanks for providing further information about what you are trying to achieve on your site here.

You can use either a cloud storage or CDN to store your files and downloads. WooCommerce only needs an external URL that points to your digital download file. If it is a valid external download URL, then WooCommerce works perfectly. There is no further validation.

Links from some cloud storage providers, like Google Drive, only work when File download method is set to Redirect only (insecure). The Setup and Configuration section explains the difference between the methods.

You can read more about Digital/Downloadable Product Handling here.

    Hope this helps!
