• Updated review as of 23rd of Feb 2023:

Another support member from their team apologized and helped me resolve all of the reported issues. Right now, there’s no SEO issue related to TranslatePress on my site. I’m happy with my most recent support experience and hope that they will keep the bar to the same standard.

    Old review:
I am paying customer of their Business plan. I used the plulgin, together with their “premium” SEO pack addon to automatically translate my site from English to Spanish with the DeepL

A few days after the translations Search Console started sending me notification for critical issues for my newly created translated Spanish pages:
Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user
These pages aren’t indexed or served on Google

Two days after Ahref’s send me a new report for my site, in which 3 new critical issues occurred affecting all of my pages, and dropping down my website SEO health score to red levels for the first time:
    1. Missing reciprocal hreflang (no return-tag)
    Issue details
Confirmation (return) links are missing for the pages declared in hreflang annotations.
    2. More than one page for same language in hreflang
    Issue details
Pages that reference more than one page for the same language (or language-location) in their hreflang annotations.
Announcing different pages for the same language (or language-location) in hreflang annotations can confuse search engines.
Erroneous hreflang annotations will be ignored by the search engines.
    3. Hreflang to redirect or broken page
    Issue details
Pages that have a broken URL in their hreflang annotations.

Those issues are creating 127 error instances in site with only 45 pages.!

The worst part is that even after I took my time to properly report in detail all of the issues and provide screenshots for them, their “customer support” rep sent me a generic response that the way Google operates is “top secret” and there’s nothing they can do about such issues. This has been the most ridiculous “support” response I have ever heard. The issues are well documented and reported not only by Google but also from Ahrefs!!!

TLDR; I had some Search Console issues when I first installed the plugin, the initial response from customer support was abysmal, but eventually, they helped me resolve everything.

    Hello,

It seams we’ve initially misdiagnosed the issue reported by you and appears to be related to a problem regarding x-default tag that’s not generated correctly on your project.

We’re sorry about the misunderstanding and we’ll like to move forward debugging and fixing this.

“sent me a generic response that the way Google operates is “top secret” and there’s nothing they can do about such issues”
That was indeed a pre written message that talks about general Google indexing issues. We’ll review and modify it so it’s more helpful in the future.

    Best Regards!

    Hi,

I’m glad we were able to fix all of the issues! The initial x-default bug is now fixed in the latest version so it shouldn’t happen any longer.

Best of luck with your projects!
