Causes Editor Issues with Adding Links BUG

    I just upgraded a site I’m working on to WP 3.5 and ran into a major issue with adding links in the Visual Editor, on normal Pages. When I disable the Custom Post Widget, the issues are resolved.

    When I select text and click the link icon, it adds extra Paragraph tags, moves the text around, and adds space before and after that line, moves the ending </a tag to the next line, and adds a bunch of space above and below the link, it’s totally wonky in there!

    Hoping this gets resolved soon, I use this plugin so often for my clients’ websites.

    Hi malawimama,

    Unfortunately I am not able to reproduce this error, which browser are you using?

    Could you try deleting all your temporary internet files?

    I’m on a Mac, using Firefox 17.0.1 and I clear my cache constantly, even cookies, so I can work with a clean slate all the time.

    However, I am starting to wonder if this is actually a WP problem, and maybe it’s not entirely the plugin – We had another client contact us today about Custom Menus not working properly after the update, and we had to go in and delete them and add them all over again. I’m working on finding out if we have this plugin installed, and what others we have on the 2 sites with issues so we can narrow down and see if there’s a connection.

    I did notice that the linking issue only happens when the text is on it’s own line, there are no problems when it’s within a paragraph. Also that there are still issues when I disable this plugin, although the issues are different, there’s still a problem. I’ll keep troubleshooting here and see if I can figure it out.

    Since I have not been able to reproduce this issue, and because your state that you are unsure that this issue is caused by the Custom Post Widget plugin, I will mark this topic as resolved.

    Note that the TinyMCE javascript WYSIWYG editor that WordPress uses has been updated to version 3.5.6 and this seems to have been the cause of the delay in releasing WordPress 3.5.
    It is quite possible that there will be an update to WordPress to resolve any remaining issues, but I think we can for now rule out that the Custom Post Widget plugin causes any issues with the WYSIWYG editor.
