Category won't save to posts

    I am having problems with saving new category to posts. New posts will only save the “unknown category” and older posts are unable to change to new or add a new category.

    Changes to the posts themselves are saved, but it’s like nothing happens category wise when I press save.

    I have tried disabling all plugins, same result.
    I have tried to change the theme to twenty fifteen theme, same result.
    I have tried to reinstall wordpress, same result.

    I am out of options.. do any of you have a clue what to try next?
