    Hi,

The woocommerce category widget doesn’t respond to a search query. when someone searches for a query the categories are always static and not relevant to the search. product attributes work differently and do respond to a search query. why doesn’t categories work like this.

    example:
someone searches for an jacket with “jacket size XL”. attributes can respond with colors available for the search jacket. categories respond with all the categories in the shop.

work arround could be to load categories as an attribute but that’s not a great solution. my question is why aren’t categories responding to a search query. and are only good for people who navigate websites the old way.

    Hi there,

The category widget is intended to be a static display of categories so users can navigate to any category on the site from any page. It’s not intended to change based on the contents of the page.

If you’d like the categories to change based on page content you can use filters in place of the widget: https://woocommerce.com/products/product-filters/
