Category to Tab converter problems

Hearing that tags are good for search engines, I used the category to tag converter in the latest version of Word Press. The problem is, now the category links are dead, making the archives harder to follow and link to. Is there any way to convert back? If not, this is a big problem and will confuse the search engines and make dead links all over the Web. Please advise…
