Category slug edit

I noticed that when I edit the name of a category and merely delete the category slug field, upon saving the slug name field gets changed to the category number. That is different from when I change a post name and the post slug field is automatically filled with the post name. Can someone fix this so that they are both the same? I prefer it filled in automatically with the category name.
