I just wanted to add that the seo title is not showing at all.
What is showing is the post title – the word stickers

It is as if the plugin is not working but it is activated and was working until about a month ago. Suddenly it is as if it is activated but not having any effect.

Can you please make sure you’ve set the correct title template under SEO > Search Appearance? Could you also provide us a sample URL to check on and see what the actual <title> tag contains?

Thanks for your response. The site isn’t in English so I won’t provide a sample URL but I will answer the questions that you asked.

I have used the shortcode and it reads: title separator tagline.

The actual tag contains the snippet as it appears on the post. In the search results Google adds the following “- stickers” after the snippet. This phrase “- stickers” is added after every single page except the homepage and posts in the “stickers” category. “- stickers” does not appear in the <title> tag and nowhere on the code of the page – only in the search results.

I read this article but it can’t be a change that Google does. My site is not really related to stickers so there would be no reason for Google to add the word stickers to each page. Also, if it was a change that Google made it would happen on a few posts but not on every single post.

The language doesn’t matter. Sometimes we can take a URL and immediately find a cause – something that might take a lot of back and forth. But we understand if you don’t provide one.

From our experience, Google prefers titles that include the site name and they commonly add what they determine to be the site name at the end if it’s not included. If you go to Admin > Settings > General > Site name, does stickers show up there? If so, change the site name to better reflect your actual site name. Same goes for the tagline directly under the site name.

Another common issue we see is keyword search impacting the title (or description). Google uses the search term to manipulate search results. To see the meta title without search term manipulation, use the site search operator followed immediately by the URL of your site.

site:example.com

One final thought is Google’s cache. If Google’s cache is outdated, they may have incorrect or incomplete data for the URL or site. Replace the word site with cache in the above example to see the cached version of your URL. Switch to the ‘View source’ option and confirm that the <title> tag is correct in their cached version.
