I use custom permalinks throughout my site and it works great… thank you for this awesome plugin.

I’ve just added a blog as a sub page on my site and it’s the first time I have used categories with custom permalink, but they don’t work. I just get my 404 error page when I try to use them.

I looked down the previous issues here and see that others have had the issue and that it was fixed in version 1.6. But I’m on version 1.7.1.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi @crispyste

Thank you for using this plugin.

Can you please share the screenshot of the edit category? I don’t have any open issue regarding the category permalink.

By the way, are you using default WordPress category or the custom category?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Sami

Thanks for the reply, it is the default categories. I’ll share the screenshot as soon as I work out how to attach a file, give me a moment.

Which table, by the way, are category permalinks stored in? I assumed termsmeta but I can’t find them anywhere.

@crispyste Check Category Permalinks page under Custom Permalinks in Admin Dashboard. If the permalink is created then you can find it there.

@crispyste I am seeing a redirect to a 404 page. How are you redirecting it to a 404 page?

    (@crispyste)

I checked category permalinks and they are there.

I’m redirecting with a plugin, 404 solution. I’ve disabled this now if you want to see but have the same issue.

However, this issue is worse than I thought, I created the page, added a permalink and it worked. I then changed the permalink and it stopped working. Reverting to the previous permalink doesn’t fix it either.

So it’s not just categories, it’s anything new.

I’ll try disabling other plugins again in case I missed anything first time.

EDIT: I was wrong, one of the two new pages is working fine but the other one doesn’t – bizarre.

EDIT AGAIN: Sorry that was due to a typo (I had put a double // at the end), page permalinks are working fine, just the categories that are not working.

@crispyste Sorry for the late reply. Did you get any solution or any use case why it is happening? If yes then please share the updates.

Otherwise, Please create a new category called Test CP (Copy and paste the permalink here) and check whether it works or not. After that, update the category and append -support in the permalink (Copy and paste the permalink here) and check whether it works or not.

Please provide both permalinks with their result.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Sami

@sasiddiqui it’s ok I’ve been working on something else anyway. Coming back to this issue now and no it is not resolved. Let me try your suggestion.

    (@crispyste)

Test CP permalink: https://fattyres.co.uk/category/test-cp/ (this works)

Updated Text CP permalink: https://fattyres.co.uk/category/test-cp-support/ (this also works)

Ok so this led me to some more ideas to try, so my permalink for example:

    https://fattyres.co.uk/blog/announce/ (does not work)

    I tried

    https://fattyres.co.uk/announce/ (works!)
    https://fattyres.co.uk/blog-categories/announce/ (works!)

So there appears to be an issue with including /blog/ in the path.
My main blog path is at https://fattyres.co.uk/blog/ so maybe there’s some conflict here.

So I try temporarily changing my main blog permalink to:
    https://fattyres.co.uk/blog1/

    and now my category permalink:
    https://fattyres.co.uk/blog/announce/
    works fine!

So I’ve narrowed down the issue, but now need to know how to have both of the above permalinks working together.

    EDIT:
Extra observation, I do not have this problem elsewhere in my site. For example the two custom permalinks:
    https://fattyres.co.uk/routes/
    https://fattyres.co.uk/routes/lake-district/
Work fine together. These both point to pages.

    Hi @crispyste

Thank you narrowing down the issue. How you set the the main /blog/ path using Custom Permalinks or with default WordPress Permalinks?

If you using the default WordPress Permalink, then please try to make it customized and then try whether the both permalinks work for you or not. To do this:

    1. First, change the slug of /blog/ to something else like /blog1/, save and refresh the page
    2. After changing the slug you can see that the default permalink is changed and it is now /blog1/ so now, customize the permalink using Custom Permalinks

Check does this trick work for you or not.

    Let me know your feedback.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Sami
