Category pages not in Sitemap

Hello,

I discovered that category pages (i.e. example.com/category/xyz-category) aren’t listed in the sitemap but I can edit the title and meta data for category pages in the backend.

Is it normal that they’re not in the sitemap?
If yes, what’s the point in optimizing title and meta for category pages if they’re not sent to index via the sitemap?
