    Hi.

I need help with making my wordpress blog pages (that will be displayed on my main navagation bar) to have category pages. So, for example, a page for Football posts, then another page for Cricket posts.

Please let me know how i can change my pages so that they can link to a certain category contain the specific post of that category.

I hope you understand what i am trying to explain, and please please please assist me to do this.

    Thanks,

    Adnan

  • Adnan,

Perhaps the easiest way is to use the Page Links To plugin.

The instructions are a little vague, but here is how to make it link to a category:

    1. Follow the installation instructions to install and activate the plugin.
    2. Edit the page you want to display a category.
    3. Scroll down to the ‘Page Links To’ section at the bottom.
    4. In the ‘Point to this URL’ box, enter ‘https://yoursiteurl/?cat=14’, replacing yoursiteurl with your own URL, and 14 with the category id you want that page to display.
    5. Click ‘Update Page’.

That should be all you need.

This just saved me a lot of time. Bada-Bing It’s done…good night and thank you very much.

clever, I was struggling trying to get a “pageofposts” template working, this is a lot quicker…

I just got Page Links To to work for a particular page “Articles” but
    a) do not want the posts to show up on Home – how do I remove it?
    b) do not want subscribers to receive emails when articles are posted

    Help?

@rebekahpaul, for part a), it depends somewhat on your theme. Some themes have an option for excluding posts from the Home page. If not, you will need to modify the template used for Home.

You should start a separate thread for this and post a link to your site so others can look at it.

Thanks for the info! Just what I needed to find out.

@rebekahpaul – you could also use Advanced Category Excluder – does exactly what you want (for part a)

    Hi!

I’m looking into the Page Links To plugin, but I’m not 100% sure whether it does what I want to accomplish.

That is, to have Pages the similar ability to have tags and categories just like Articles have. And I’m not talking about messing with Custom Fields, but something user-friendly, just like Tags and Categories in article-edit-page. Has anyone done this already?

@jamk, please start a new thread for this question.

I think you could do this with Custom Taxonomies.

    Justin Tadlock on Custom Taxonomies
CODEX: add_meta_box to add a meta box for hierarchical custom taxonomies
CODEX: Adding Admin Menus for adding a menu item for hierarchical custom taxonomies
