Category links on homepage

My site has categories set up like this:
Category 1
– Subcat 1
– Subcat 2Category 2
– Subcat 1
– Subcat 2On my homepage, I’d like to do a query for all top level categories, and provide links to the category page. So in the example above, there would be links for:
https://www.domain.com/category-1
https://www.doamin.com/category-2How can I do this and insert it into my home.php template file?
