category link shows full articles?

Forgive me if this is a newb question, but I can’t seem to get the category links to display article teasers instead of the full article.

For example, I have a menu button that links to my ‘Books’ category, and what I’d like to have happen is either a page with a list of links to all the reviews in my books category or, more ideally, a page with a teaser paragraph from each review.

Instead what happens is that the category page prints the entirety of every article in the cat, which means a lot of scrolling for my readers.
