I’m in the process of moving our site to a new domain, I did a fresh install of WP and then transferred the database to the new site. Currently I’m the only one with access as I’m trying to set the new site up.
I keep getting a category named “1” appearing. I can delete it, but when I return to the site it appears again. There are no posts in it, I even tried renaming it but then another “1” category appears. Like I said I’m the only one with access to the site so it can’t be someone adding it. Any ideas?

  • Is this the only category currently within WordPress. You need to retain at least 1 category within WP – even if you don’t plan on using it.

No it is not the only category, I have about 20 right now

Could it be an artefact of the database move?

Thats what I’m assuming and I have been searching through the database using phpmyadmin but can’t find anything that stands out. If anyone has an idea, it would be great help!

Well if it’s not in the database (terms tables hold categories) then next guess would be one of the theme templates (e.g. index.php) causing the problem. If you switch themes what happens?

FOUND IT! The default email category was set to it. I guess even renaming the category didn’t change it in the setting, let alone I’ve never used the email option and really didn’t even think about it.

Hi jlomaga, I am having the exact same problem.

How did you get to the default email category…

Its a right pain isnt it
