    Hi.

BIG THANKS FOR THIS GREAT PLUGIN. IT”S AMAZING.

I have a questions and I would very happy if you find a minute to answer. please please please.

I searched all question and there 2 questions regarding my issue but I didn’t find any answer that’s why I decided to write.

    1) Permalinks.
Before changing the website design I used Yost plugin with settings to hide /category/ so I had this URLs https://website.com/post-name/ now I used a different plugin with other permalinks ttps://website.com/category/post-name/
    – I wonder if this can affect my ranking? If yes will rank come back?
    – Google now indexed my site with /category/ do i have to wait or changed it back?
    – Do I have to use 301? For all pages?

    2) I do not know how it happened but I clearly remember I had a URL https://website.com/category-name/ which opened a category page. Now this link opened a different page.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • 1) Not really plugin related question, but generally you want to hold onto your structure once you set it. If you change it, plenty of things can happen, however in theory, if you do proper 301 redirects from web.com/category/site to web.com/site you should be OK. Then just watch for 404 error in your google webmaster tools. You can find further reading about 301 and its impact easily on google, this is widely discussed issue.
    – yes it can and probably will, yes over the time it should
    – just stick with what you have, every change can affect your ranking further
    – 301 everything that is 404 to the right place, or just redirect all 404 to homepage

    2) Again this is not related to the plugin, you should know what you did that caused that. I suspect your misconfigured some of the plugins so it redirects it somewhere else. Trace your steps back and try to fix it, if you can’t restore the backup or hire help.

Lastly… It looks like you do lot of hasty decisions regarding your permalink structure and maybe SEO in general. Slow down, think about changing or implementing anything in advance and don’t change everything in panic. You are so afraid of your rankings yet your actions are the only thing endangering them ?? Always backup, think long and hard and try not to change what you have once implemented. Hope it helps!

Thanks @lebaux for dropping in ?? Additional support is always appreciated!

And thank you @termoplus for the big compliments ??

    1. Mr. lebaux is right, in effect:

I wonder if this can affect my ranking? If yes will rank come back?

Yes, your ranking will be affected. Whether it’s better or worse for your site is to be determined.

Google now indexed my site with /category/ do i have to wait or changed it back?

If your site has the /category/ slug removed, and if you try to access it, it should automatically redirect; then you’re all set. If it’s not automatically redirecting, you should read the following paragraph.

Do I have to use 301? For all pages?

You should if this isn’t handled automatically. This can best be done through Apache/Nginx rules; you should ask your hosting provider about this approach. After a month or two you can remove those rules.

    2. That could be because of the plugin switch. The SEO Framework does not and will not ever allow you to alter the permalink endpoints. This should be handled by WordPress.

In essence, I’ve explained the lot already a few days ago, right here.

I hope this helps ?? Have a wonderful day!
